DARPA gets pitch for unique troop vehicle

logi Aerospace has proposed production of a military vehicle that can travel above ground as well as on it to protect troops from improvised explosive devices.

The proposal for the Tyrannos, which would utilize a proven shrouded propeller design from Trek Aerospace, has been made to the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the company said Thursday.

"The Tyrannos is a bold, new and exciting vehicle," logi Aerospace said. "It is designed o drive above roads to avoid IED explosions. The vehicle also drives on the ground in all terrains… and can take off vertically without a runway."

logi Aerospace said the Tyrannos designed the vehicle in collaboration with electric vehicle company ZAP and Trek Aerospace. Tyrannos, it said, comfortably seats four persons and can operate at zero emissions on the ground and in the air.

It uses electricity or fuel for propulsion.

logi Aerospace is a developer of vertical takeoff shrouded propeller vehicles since 1996.
