Hamilton Sundstrand wins contract for Stryker modernization

General Dynamics Land Systems executives have selected Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp., for the Stryker Modernization Generator Subsystem Engineering and Manufacturing Development verification and validation program. Hamilton Sundstrand's generator subsystem will deliver 125kW/600vdc output power to meet the current and future needs of U.S. Army Stryker armored troop transport and combat vehicles and the Stryker Brigade Combat Team.

The increased power generated is required to support future communication and control suites and enhanced mission packages that will enable increased interoperability across the future combat system network, according to a representative.

Hamilton Sundstrand's Space & Defense division, in Rockford, Ill., will fulfill this initial contract, covering development through qualification and delivery of the required integrated generator assemblies and generator control units for initial vehicle testing over a two-year period.

The contract award is part of the Phase I Stryker Modernization program, designed to increase the combat capabilities of a proven military vehicle by incorporating lessons learned in Afghanistan and Iraq. Improvements include enhanced engine/transmission suspension, height management system, central tire inflation systems brakes, driveline, hull structure, seats and environmental upgrades.
